IGN / Electronic Entertainment Expo

With millions of loyal viewers & visitors- you can expect IGN, the largest gaming presence on the internet, to go big at The Annual Electronic Entertainment Expo. Which is why it was no small feat to concept, direct, design, and animate all of the flagship visuals for their sweeping cross-platform coverage of E3. Conceptually, they wanted something new, fresh, and thoughtful, which reflected current trends and near-future technologies, with an idea that would be grounded in the live broadcast but transcend into their various platforms. So, after a few weeks of cold sweats, sheer panic, and furious failures- I arrived at an idea that everyone loved so much that we employed it over two consecutive years. Equal parts Simulation Theory and Samsara told through the employ of a massive drone army- we are taken through our drones cyclical reincarnation as they build and rebuild their maker, themselves. This continuous state of rebirth is showcased in the flagship looping hero animation located at the main stage. While all of the broadcast interstitials, secondary screens, social channels, and key-art featured loops of our working drones, in constant scout mode, searching to rebuild.

STYLEFRAMES

In our final looks- we more heavily leaned into the isometric style. As early testing showed that it helped demonstrate the robotic and cyclical nature of our story. Furthermore- the compositions were more successful as key-art and across the socials- allowing designers more flexibility to shuffle around and incorporate various additional elements.

REBOOT

Shown above is some look development from the second year on IGN’s E3 coverage. They loved the concept so much they called up the following year to put a fresh coat of paint on everything, really make the hidden E3 in our brain pop, and to really just help them blow it out in 2017.
